Dr. Elisa Ascione, a cultural anthropologist specialized in food studies with aÌýfocus on sustainability and cultural heritage, joined the students of the class on ‘Food and the Environment’ for a guest lecture on Food Waste.

The class explored food waste as a multi-dimensional problem that has been addressed from a plurality of perspectives in the growing discipline of "food waste studies".ÌýÌý

Having done an exercise in monitoring their individual food waste for one week, the class exchanged their experiences and examined the ways in which food waste is symptomatic of uneven dynamics of resource distribution and structures.ÌýÌýIt also investigated the ways in which policies, technology, and activism can transform wasted food materially but also discursively.
